She’s a singer, actress, voice personality, poetry aficionado and fan of dressing up for Comic Con. Mae Whitman seems like the perfect nerd crush to me.
Mae Whitman has grown up before our eyes. She played Bill Pullman’s daughter twice, most notably in Independence Day. She’s worked with George Clooney, Sandra Bullock, and the legend himself Harry Connick Jr. I’m betting you know her better as Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender. If you haven’t watched this delightful kids’ show, get on it now. Just as last week’s Nerd Crush brings Rapheal to life, Mae voices the tough TV reporter April O’Neil for the TMNT cartoons. She has a list of voice work longer than my arm! She’s Wonder Girl, Tinkerbell, Little Suzy, Batgirl, and multiple voices from American Dad and Family Guy. In Scott Pilgrim vs the World she stole every scene. She never stops working.
Perhaps my favorite thing about Mae is her excitement about her work and her fans. She loves voice acting. She loves being on set and exploring acting with other professionals. Sometimes the chatter about celebutantes and 15-minute-famers obscures our view of the people who live their bliss. Mae Whitman revels in her work and works at her talent.
