Yes! THAT Archie! Archie Anderson from Riverdale and Archie Comics! I know what you’re thinking. Archie Comics are so milquetoast that a horror comic based upon that universe couldn’t possibly be worth reading. You’d be unbelievably wrong, though. I’ve been so impressed by this title’s first eight issues that I don’t want to say anything for fear of ruining any of the surprises! I mean, sure, here’s an image of Jughead Jones talking up Sabrina Spellman (Oh, you teenage witch, you!) to try and raise his beloved Hot Dog back from the dead, but since Zombie Jughead is featured on the cover of the first issue, I doubt that’s much of a spoiler.
This title has it all! Drama! Serious horror! Dysfunctional family politics! A look inside the mind of a dog as he changes into an undead mutt! INCEST!
NO, SERIOUSLY! I’ve been reading The Walking Dead for years, and I haven’t found that comic as interesting or as compelling as Afterlife With Archie for some time (recent events notwithstanding). Put down what you’re doing and go out and try to find the first collection: Escape From Riverdale (because the individual issues have long sold out) and then tell me you don’t agree! Just amazing writing, great art, creepy atmosphere, all laid out against the backdrop of characters you have known and loved for years. OR THOUGHT YOU DID!
