Geek Drink of the Week: Maximilian

I wanted to create a red drink which resembled the hulking robot Maximilian (The Black Hole). I failed in that regard. However, I tried a new syrup for this drink and it is my new favorite thing. Success. Partly. This drink will knock you back a step or two. It smells strong. Be careful.maximilian1
1 1/2 oz Jack Daniels
1oz cherry brandy
1oz stout syrup

Fill shaker with ice and the three ingreidients. Do not shake. Simply stir to chill. Strain into coupe glass (I am visiting family and used a rocks glass). If it’s too much for you, I suggest adding an ounce or two of soda water.

This is basbasically a simple syrup. I took swigs off my Guinness before pouring it into a small saucepan. I figure about 9 or 10 ounces. Heat on low just under a simmer for about 40 minutes, stirring frequently. It should be reduced by 2/3. Place heat safe measuring cup on scale and zero it. Pour liquid into cup. We want 1:1 here. If you have three ounces of stout add three ounces of sugar. Stir until dissolved. Cool and transfer to a container/bottle. It will keep for a week or so…I bet it won’t last though.
