Holy moly. This drink is not for the faint of heart. I can’t really explain my motivations for this drink; at least not well. I wanted something aged and strong with orange. I needed there to be orange. Since the entire third act of The Way of the Gun (this week’s Find That Film) takes place in Mexico, the cocktail demanded tequila or something like it. The Bagman is the result of this fevered mixing session. It will knock you down. The taste, heck, the aroma might even force you to take a seat. Do not start drinking Bagmans…Bagmen…er, unless you are accustomed to how Scotch and tequila work on your brain and stomach.
1 oz tequila (I used a silver, but an aged gold or reposado might be quite nice)
1 oz squeezed orange juice
1/2 oz sweet vermouth
ice, orange twist
This is pretty straight forward. Shave the orange twist first. Next roll and squeeze the juice. Drop a few ice cubes in a rocks glass. Measure and pour the ingredients over the ice. Rub the peel along the rim and place the twist in the glass. Sip. For goodness’ sake, sip.
