Geek Drink of the Week: Maida

Maida1Can we all agree Anjelica Huston should have more drinks named for her? This is the Maida. It is tall, dark, slightly sweet, and strong. Because Ms. Huston is a bit Irish and she spent a significant part of her youth there, I’m using her as inspiration for a St Patrick’s Day drink.

I had two motivations for today’s drink: first, I needed an Irish ingredient for St Patrick’s Day; second, I wanted vodka to represent the scarce water in The Ice Pirates. I am pleased with this solution. You’ll need to make a Guinness syrup again. Bring out your coupe glass as I feel it’s a lovely feminine shape for this drink.

Maida21 1/2 oz vodka

1 oz Guinness syrup

1/2 oz strawberry puree (I use pre-made mix)

ice

Place everything in a shaker or tall glass. Stir, not shake, to chill. Pour into a coupe (cocktail glass if you must).

May the roof above you never fall in, and those gathered beneath it never fall out.
