Season five is finally upon us. We moved across the country again and have mostly unpacked. Our recording area is not as quiet as previous locations, but it should do (if you hear/don’t hear something let us know). That brings us to the first episode. Are you ready?
Did you think our last episode was too recent? Well, Steven Soderbergh‘s Logan Lucky is barely a year old. It’s unusual for us to recommend such a recent film, but due to the interesting release schedule you may have missed this fun one in a theater. Since Soderbergh could teach a masterclass in heist movies, you should give this one a try.
Let’s begin with the odd yet completely effective ensemble cast. The Logan siblings and Bang Brothers may not be as well dressed as Ocean’s gang, but they handle their ball caps and trucker hats with ease. Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, and Riley Keough are believable and likeable as the Logan clan. Somehow, I can’t explain, Daniel Craig, Jack Quaid, and Brian Gleeson totally work here as brothers. Truly. They’re backed up with a variety of stars like Katie Holmes, Seth MacFarlane, Sebastian Stan, Dwight Yoakam, and Hilary Swank just to name a few.
This caper takes place during a race at a NASCAR racetrack. Timing is everything in this plan. Around the edges are a prison riot, grand theft auto, and a sweet kiddie pageant. In fact, the little girl, Farrah Mackenzie, may just steal the show.
At its core, Logan Lucky doesn’t focus on the cool abilities used to steal money but on the heart that drives the families. This is a movie about love not love of money. Check the streaming services when you’re ready for a good laugh and a good heist. Why not tonight? Log on and find that film Logan Lucky.
